NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College women’s basketball team’s undefeated streak continues. The #25 nationally ranked Hawks improve to 14-0 after easily defeating the Concordia University JV Friday night here 90-46.
Northeast Coach Matt Svehla said his team was up by 14 at halftime. “Our first half of play was really poor. We missed easy shots and we did not play very hard. Our focus and effort was much better in the second half and our bench gave us some second half energy.”
Svehla credits his players in applying more pressure in extending the lead. “Debinique Knowles and Megan Trinder really created some havoc in the backcourt and the other players seem to feed off that. Despite our lousy first half of play, I’m pleased with how we found a way to get going.”
Northeast’s Alison Klostergaard led all scorers with 15 points. Trinder and Yasmin Miller had 14 points each; Knowles and Jamea Coleman each finished with 13 points; Lexi Murphy had 11; Emily Gamble and Ena Viso each scored four points; and Annie Szczepaniak had two points.
Northeast is now off over the holiday break. Its next game will be against Iowa Central Community College in Ft. Dodge, IA, on Wednesday, January 8.
“We’ll enjoy our semester break, but we’ll be excited to get back for our second half of the season,” Svehla said.
