NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College women’s basketball team dominated in its game against Cloud County Community College Tuesday here, leading 10-0 to start the contest and never trailed in its 81-67 victory. The Hawks are now 4-0.
Northeast led 41-26 at halftime and led by as many as 18 points midway through the second half. “We had a nice halftime lead, but you can always figure that Cloud County will not go away,” said Northeast Coach Matt Svehla. “They made a run, but we managed to keep the spread to 11 or more the entire second half.”
While this was a good win for the Hawks, Svehla said there are still a few areas where they can improve. “Controlling our foul issues is one of those areas and consistency in rebounding is another. We had two starters foul out again tonight, but fortunately for us we had a comfortable lead. We were also fortunate that Yasmin (Miller) gave us a great boost off the bench tonight by scoring 18 points.”
Megan Trinder led Northeast with 21 points and five assists; Ena Viso finished with 16 points and eight rebounds; and Lexi Murphy scored 13 points. In addition, Alison Klostergaard pulled down nine rebounds while Miller had eight.
Northeast will host Doane College Friday night at 6 p.m. at the Cox Activities Center on the Norfolk campus.
