NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College men’s basketball team kicks off the season this week at the two-day McCook Classic. The Hawks face North Platte Community College on Friday, November 1, at 6 p.m. and will then take on host McCook Community College on Saturday, November 2 at 4 p.m.
“This team will have a great combination of inside and outside players, both young and old,” said Northeast Coach Dan Anderson. “This class and our returning players have longness, the ability to chase rebounds and are extremely athletic from top to bottom.”
Members of this year’s Hawks’ team include: Sophomores Junior Denis, Nassau, Bahamas; Jabbar Washington, Michigan City, IN; Oral Rahming, Nassau, Bahamas; Khapri Alston, Chicago, IL; Kyle Kilgore, Adrian, MN; and Sheed Fairely, Dunn, NC. Freshmen members include: Lyle Hexom, Omaha; Anthony Woods, Kansas City, MO; Chima Moneke, Canberra, Australia; Jesse Brown, Madison, SD; Dionte Smith, Nassau, Bahamas; Buay Tuach, Omaha; and Demarcus Cunningham, Atlanta, GA.
“This group has worked very hard in the pre-season and it will show,” Anderson said. “They have good chemistry and talent to play well with one another. It’s a fun group to be around.”
Adam Blaylock and Zach Towle serve as assistant coaches.
The Hawks have 36 dates on its regular season schedule. Northeast’s first home contest is a men’s and women’s doubleheader on Wednesday, November 6 against North Dakota State College of Science. The women play at 6 p.m. while the men’s game begins at 8 p.m.
