The writing clinic is being offered not only in Norfolk, but also at the South Sioux City College Center.
Students can bring their writing assignments to Mary Persinger for review. These sessions will be held in room 133 on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to7 p.m. and on Thursdays in room 132 from 10 a.m. to11 a.m. This is a free service offered at the College Center.
Students should bring a copy of their assignment and homework to these sessions. The writing clinic is designed to help with writer’s block, formatting, grammar and usage. The writing clinic is also used for proofreading assignments, finding style, and help with finding a conclusion or introduction.
The semester has only begun and many feel overwhelmed and stressed with new classes and instructors. No matter what, writing is a big part of the college experience. For most, writing doesn’t come easy and they may feel that they want to drop a class because of all of the assignments, which is why Northeast Community College is offering this service for students: to prevent the rate of drop outs.
Last semester Northeast had a lot of students drop out of classes and even out of college because they felt overwhelmed with assignments and homework. Persinger, an instructor at the SSC College Center who also works at the writing clinic, said, “How nice it is to see familiar faces from last semester returning again!”
Some instructors are even offering extra points on the assignment if you utilize the writing clinic.
For more questions regarding the writing clinic students should check with student services in their College Center.
