Everybody can see that cell phones have come a pretty long way in the last 10 years. The first phones looked almost like candy bars and now we have widescreen smartphones that could be considered a small computer. While the huge lists of advanced features are what its all about today, many people may be still attached to the old phones that were popular just a few years ago.
One of those most popular phones was the Motorola RAZR and now the company has revived this iconic flip phone, but they have given it another name. It is now Android-powered and its called the Droid RAZR. It’s nearly unrecognizable compared to its older sibling but it just may be what smartphones fan have been looking for.
The new and improved RAZR has a dual-core processor, an 8-mega pixel rear-facing camera capable of 1080p video recording and 4G LTE support. It’s massive 4.3” touch screen is quite dazzling and is encased in Gorilla Glass for extra protection. The device is splash resistant, with Motorola even promising that the phone’s internals are meant to survive a small amount of water.
One of the biggest selling points in the old RAZR was its thin design. The new and improved RAZR continues with that trend, measuring a narrow 7.1 mm, making it the world’s thinnest smartphone. By comparison, the recently released Droid Bionic measures 10.9 and the iPhone 4S at 9.3 mm. The back of the RAZR is made out of woven Kevlar.
The original Motorola RAZR came out in 2003 and in three years it sold over 50 million, largely due to the super-thin design and flashy appearance. As smartphones continue to grow in popularity, the modest features of the old RAZR sent it straight to the bargain bin. With the name recognition of RAZR the new one, with has a powerful OS and huge list of features, it may be able to regain some of the old phone’s popularity and magic. Some Android devices seem to be lacking that lately.
The Droid RAZR will be released this month as a Verizon exclusive and will cost $299 with a new 2-year contract. Accessories will also be available for launch-day, it will include a keyboard and laptop dock for expanding the phone’s capabilities to a larger screen.
