Norfolk Community Theatre is opening their curtains to a new stage; while waiting they continue to push on.
Northeast Community Theatre will be opening a permanent home in the near future in downtown Norfolk, NE. While the troupe waits, they continue to work out of the Cox Theatre at Northeast Community College. The Community Theater group has been performing for almost 50 years; starting in 1964. The new building will be opened by generous donations and admissions from shows.
The Community Theatre group invites anyone in the Norfolk community to join. Whether a person is an actor, or prefers to be behind the scenes, Norfolk Community Theatre provides opportunities to act, build set, do costumes, do makeup or hair, run lights, run sound, or assist in ushering during performances. Norfolk Community Theatre is also a great way to meet new people.
The theatre group puts on three productions a year. The first show, “Plaza Suite.” written by Neil Simon, will premiere on October 6 at 7:30 p.m. The show dates also include October 7,8,13,14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. and a Sunday matinee October 9 at 2 p.m. All performances take place in the Cox Theatre located on the Northeast Community College campus in the Cox Activities Center building.
Other productions this season include the annual Christmas show which will be David NcGillivray and Walter Zerlin Jnr.’s comedy “The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society’s Production of A Christmas Carol.” Production dates for the Christmas show are December 1,2,3,8,8,10 at 7:30 p.m. and December 4 at 2 p.m. in the Cox Theatre. If anyone is interested in auditioning for “The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society’s Production of A Christmas Carol.” auditions are October 18 and 19 in the Cox Theatre.
The final Norfolk Community Theatre production will be “No Sex Please; We’re British.” Show dates and times for this show are March 1,2,3,8,9,10 at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee production on March 4 at 2 p.m. in the Cox Theatre. All persons interested in being involved are encouraged to come to auditions on January 10 and 11 at 7 p.m. in the Cox Theatre.
Memberships in the Norfolk Community Theatre can be obtained at any time and include many privileges. Such as, The Red Carpet Special. This allows members to have first-choice reservations before ticket sales open to the public. Adult season memberships are $40, student memberships are $25, and a family membership including 2 adults and 2 students for $120.
