In the Spring of 2011, Phi Theta Kappa inducted 90 new members, up from 70 last Spring.
“We are very excited about the new members,” said English Instructor and Phi Theta Kappa Advisor Julie Ptacek-Wilkey. “We are about as active as the students themselves want to be.”
Phi Theta Kappa’s Tau Chi chapter annually inducts about 130 members with induction ceremonies each Fall and Spring. The Tau Chi chapter is a sponsor of the Community College Completion Core, which supports and encourages students to complete two-year degrees.
Phi Theta Kappa is the International Honor Society of the Two Year College, and students are invited to join when they achieve a 3.5 or higher GPA with 12 or more credit hours in courses numbered 1000 and above. This chapter of Phi Theta Kappa has records of members dating back to 1984, but the chapter had to be restarted in about 1997, according to Ptacek-Wilkey.
