Upcoming Xbox Series X Games

Game Rant, Writer

As the Xbox Series X/S enters its third year, Microsoft’s platform is gradually amassing a respectable library. Consoles typically do not start to flourish until the latter half of their existence, once cross-gen stops being a priority and developers can focus exclusively on crafting projects for only the most modern systems. The Xbox Series X/S has yet to reach that point, although things are moving in that direction.

2022 produced a number of stellar games, particularly in the open-world genre. Elden Ring, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands are all good-to-great, and they offer wildly different experiences from each other. While big releases slowed down a bit after the end of March, things started to pick up again in September and October with A Plague Tale: Requiem, Persona 5 Royal, Overwatch 2, Modern Warfare 2, and Grounded.

What Xbox games are coming soon? Which titles are expected to drop after 2023? Please note that the focus is on the North American release dates of Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One games. Expansions will also be listed.

Updated March 28, 2023: Over the last week, the upcoming Xbox games were announced: Shukuchi Ninja, Puzzle Quest 3, Rally Rock ‘N Racing, GhostWire: Tokyo, Sea of Stars, Lila’s Tale and the Hidden Forest, Guns N’ Runs, Formula Retro Racing – World Tour, Lego 2K Drive.

March 2023 Xbox Series X/S & Xbox One Games

March 2023 has been a memorable month for gaming, and things got off to a strong start with Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. Developed by Team Ninja, the game follows in the footsteps of the company’s previous hack and slash projects, specifically Nioh. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty launched directly on Xbox Game Pass, making the title immediately accessible to subscribers.

Originally a Japanese-exclusive Wii game, Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse finally made its Western debut in March 2023. The horror game is generally regarded as a respectable entry in Koei Tecmo’s cult classic franchise. Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 Remake also came out toward the end of March, and the title modernized the 2005 classic for the current generation. The game has received a lot of critical praise, earning a 90+ average on Metacritic.

May 2023 Xbox Series X/S & Xbox One Games

Even though May 2023’s roster of releases is lacking quantity, the month has already announced quality. Paradox Interactive’s Age of Wonders 4 is a 4X turn-based strategy game, a subgenre that is hardly overrepresented on Xbox. On the same day as that release, Arkane’s Redfall will land on Xbox Game Pass. The first-person shooter explores vampire mythos and takes place in an open-world. Along with co-op support, the game will also offer a single-player campaign.

Amnesia: The Bunker and Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle should fill May 2023’s horror quota, although they are shaping up to be very different games. The month also contains Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the developer’s first proper release since 2015’s Arkham Knight. If the game is even half as good as any entry in the Arkham trilogy, Suicide Squad will be among 2023’s best Xbox games.

  • May 2: Age of Wonders 4 (XBX/S)
  • May 2: Redfall (XBX/S)
  • May 3: Moonrise Fall (XBX/S)
  • May 5: Hogwarts Legacy (XBO)
  • May 10: Size Matters (XBO)
  • May 11: Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2 (XBX/S, XBO)
  • May 16: Amnesia: The Bunker (XBX/S, XBO)
  • May 16: Atlas Fallen (XBX/S)
  • May 17: Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle (XBX/S, XBO)
  • May 18: Endless Dungeon (XBX/S, XBO)
  • May 19: Lego 2K Drive (XBX/S, XBO)
  • May 19: Truck Driver: Premium Edition (XBX/S)
  • May 23: After Us (XBX/S)

  • May 26: Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (XBX/S)
  • May 30: Shame Legacy (XBX/S, XBO)

June 2023 Xbox Series X/S & Xbox One Games

While it is still early days, June 2023 is shaping up to contain a packed few weeks in terms of major releases. Just two days into the month, Capcom’s Street Fighter 6 will make its debut. Even though the fifth entry garnered a relatively mixed reception by the franchise’s standards, the game’s combat system is fantastic, so there is hope that SF6 will be a complete return to form. People who prefer RPGs over fighting games will not have to wait too long to get their hands on one of 2023’s biggest projects as Diablo 4 is set to launch on June 6, 2023. Following a reasonably successful open beta, Blizzard’s upcoming title looks primed and ready to live up to the license’s legacy.

If MMORPGs are more of somebody’s speed, June 2023 has The Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom, the next expansion in the highly-respected multiplayer game. This release will introduce a new class, the Apocrypha, locations, and story threads. Other titles announced for the month include Greyhill Incident, Sonic Origins Plus, and We Love Katamari ReRoll+ Royal Reverie. While they have not confirmed release dates, Layers of Fear and RoboCop: Rogue City are also aiming for a June debut.

  • June 2023: Harmony: The Fall of Reverie (XBX/S)
  • June 2023: Layers of Fear (XBX/S)
  • June 2023: RoboCop: Rogue City (XBX/S, XBO)
  • June 2, 2023: Street Fighter 6 (XBX/S)
  • June 2, 2023: We Love Katamari ReRoll+ Royal Reverie (XBX/S, Xbox One)
  • June 6, 2023: Diablo 4 (XBX/S, XBO)

Xbox 2023 Games With A Post-March Release Date Or No Exact Date

More than a hundred games have been announced for 2023, many of which have yet to specify an exact release date. At the moment, only a small sliver of 2023’s calendar has been filled. Projects like Alan Wake 2, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Dune Awakening, and The Lord of the Rings – Gollum could launch within the current year, although official announcements might still be a ways off.

Microsoft has quite a few massive console exclusives announced for 2023 as well. Starfield is about as big of a title as they come, and Bethesda’s sci-fi RPG will undoubtedly dominate discourse when it debuts. Racing aficionados should keep an eye out for Forza Motorsport.

Major Xbox Games In Development With No Release Year Or A Post-2023 Estimation

“Coming soon” can mean anything from a few months to a couple of years. Beyond Good and Evil 2, Dragon Age 4, and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 are all in development, but players will have to wait patiently to learn when these games will be made available to play.

There are so many exciting announced projects that will eventually come to the Xbox Series X/S, some of which have revealed very little information about themselves. The Elder Scrolls 6, Kingdom Hearts 4, and Ark 2 are all highly-anticipated titles that could still be a long way off from becoming a reality, and these projects are just the tip of the iceberg.

Rumored Xbox Games

Just because a project has not been officially announced doesn’t mean it cannot be discussed. Some rumored games, such as Gears 6, should happen sooner or later.

All these games are suspect to speculation and nothing more. Therefore, they should all be taken with a grain of salt.
