Ellsworth takes two from Northeast softball

IOWA FALLS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College softball team had a tough time keeping Ellsworth Community College off the scoreboard on Monday, falling 8-0 and 16-8 in ICCAC play in Iowa Falls, Iowa.

The Hawks (3-41, 1-23 ICCAC) managed five hits in the first game as Rosario Garcia (Northglenn, Colo.) and Jacqueline Denning (Sacramento, Calif.) had two hits each.

Northeast fell behind 11-0 after the first inning in the second game of the doubleheader, but managed to add three runs in the bottom of the third and four in the bottom of the fourth. But, it wasn’t enough as Ellsworth added insurance runs in the final two innings.

Maggie Berryman (Norfolk, Neb.) went 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Chantel Julian (Roseville, Calif.) had three hits, three runs and three RBI. Garcia added three hits, including a run and an RBI.

The Hawks hit the road at 1 p.m. Saturday for a doubleheader against Southwestern Community College in Clinton, Iowa.
