Northeast softball falls in season opener

EDMOND, Okla. – The Northeast Community College softball team opened up the 2019 season on the road in a non-conference triangular in Edmond, Okla.
On Saturday, the Hawks (0-4) battled North Platte Community College and Iowa Western Community College, falling in both games, 17-15 and 15-2. Northeast squared off with both teams on Sunday, falling 23-7 to North Platte and 12-2 to Iowa Western.
Against North Platte on Saturday, Inese Uribe (Riverside, Calif.) led the Hawks going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs and two doubles. Sydney Kelley (Omaha, Neb.) went 3-for-5 at the plate, with three RBI, two runs and a walk, while Karissa Urdiales (Thornton, Colo.) had two hits, including three RBI and a double. Abby Pierce (Brainard, Neb.) collected two hits and two RBI, while Reagan Reicks (Dunlap, Iowa) had a double.
Madison McKewon (Springfield, Neb.) was tagged with the loss after tossing four and one-third innings, allowing five earned runs off seven hits.
In the final game of the day against the Reivers, the Hawks tied the game at two apiece after the first inning, but the bats went cold the rest of the way.
Urdiales went 2-for-2 with an RBI and Kelley had a double. Lindsey Anderson (Dunlap, Iowa) took the loss, giving up seven earned runs off 10 hits.
The Hawks managed seven runs against the Knights on Sunday, but allowed 14 runs in the second and third innings combined.
Kelley went 3-for-3 at the dish with three runs. Rosario Garcia (Northglenn, Colo.) added two doubles with three RBI. McKewon took the loss, allowing seven earned runs off 12 hits in three innings of work.
In the final game of the trip, the Reivers stormed to an early 12-0 lead and never looked back.
Garcia went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Anderson chipped in a double.
The games scheduled for tomorrow against Southeast Community College have been postponed to a later date. Northeast was also scheduled to host Central Community College on Thursday and have now postponed the doubleheader to a later date.
Northeast is back in action on Saturday at 2 and 4 p.m., taking on North Platte Community College at 2 and 4 p.m. in North Platte, Neb.
