Coach hired for newly reinstated Golf Team.
Officials at NECC announced earlier this year their plans to reinstate the college’s intercollegiate golf and volleyball programs.
According to Northeast Community College President Dr. Michael Chipps, the primary reason for reinstatement of these two athletic programs is growth of the college. “Growing our wonderful college is paramount at this time,” Dr. Chipps said. “With a new golf and volleyball team, we will not only increase our enrollment numbers but also increase and infuse more activities and other college life opportunities for our students.”
Athletic Director and Horticulture/Golf Course Management Instructor Kurt Pytleski served as interim golf coach until the coaching position was filled this past week.
“We are trying to do the golf team with more local kids in our 20 county service area if possible, or at least have a majority of the student athletes be from this area.” Pytletski said.
“We want the kids to enjoy themselves, we want them to represent the college well. We want to have a competitive team that is fun to watch and they enjoy being out there golfing.”
The coaching position was taken over by Brad Bosh this week. Bosh is an insurance agent with Farm Bureau Financial Services in Norfolk.
He grew up in Schuyler, NE and graduated from Central Community College in Columbus with an associate’s degree. Bosh was the head golf professional/general manager at the Salina (Kan.) Elks Country club from 2002-2005.
“I cannot think of a better man to coach our newly-reinstated golf program than Brad Bosh,” Athletic Director Kurt Pytletski said. “Brad brings a long history of excellent golf, along with a passion for teaching the sport, to his new job. He will take our golf team far with his expertise on the game and his history.”
The team currently consists of eight players: Trenton Peterson (Ponca, NE), Kenny Kuchar (Meadow Grove, NE), Brandon Schmidt (Columbus, NE), Justin Brockman (West Point, NE), Jarod Spurlin (Mulllen, NE), Sean Gansebom (Wayne, NE), Tommy Ruzek ( Dodge, NE), and Nathan Meister (Norfolk, NE).
They recently competed at the Midland University Fall Invite, Des Moines Area Community College Fall Invitational and the Indian Hills Community College Community 1st Credit Union Fall Invitational.
The NECC Golf Team will next compete in the Iowa Lakes Fall Invitational, Sunday, September 23rd in Okoboji, IA.
The team is scheduled to attend two more meets, before ending the fall season.
