Special to the Viewpoint, Reporter

NORFOLK, NE – Two writers will read from their works at Fall 2018’s first installment of the Visiting Writers Series at Northeast Community College.

JV Brummels, Wayne, and Marjorie Saiser, Lincoln, will read from their works on Wednesday, September 19, at 4 p.m. at Hawks Landing in the Northeast Student Center.

Brummels is the author of a number of poetry collections, including Cheynne Line and Other Poems, Book of Grass, City at War and most recently, frontpew@paradise (Stephen F. Austin University Press, 2017). A former professor at Wayne State College, home of the longest running poetry slam west of Chicago, Brummels has also written and published short fiction and a novel. Raised first on a farm and later on a ranch, he was educated at the University of Nebraska and Syracuse University. In 1984, he and his family began a horseback cattle outfit to raise natural, grass-fed beef, which they continue to operate as Lightning Creek Cattle Company.

Saiser has published six books of poems and four chapbooks. The poems in her most recent book, Woman in the Moon, examine ordinary life from a slightly different angle. Saiser has won several Nebraska Book Awards and has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She has co-edited Road Trip, which features interviews with writers. Her poems have been published in Rattle, Poetry East, PoetryMagazine.com, Nimrod, American Life in Poetry and at her website, poetmarge.com.

This is the first Visiting Writers Series event for the fall semester.

The Visiting Writers Series is sponsored by the Northeast Community College English Department. All events are free and open to the public. For further information, contact Bonnie Johnson-Bartee, coordinator, at (402) 844-7673.
