BEATRICE – The Northeast Community College softball team has improved to 3-5 after their doubleheader sweep of Southeast Community College here Tuesday. The Hawks cruised to a 9-1 victory in the first game and won 8-0 in the second.

“I was pleased with our ability to make adjustments at the plate today,” said Northeast Coach Iris Woodhead. “We finally saw the bats coming around. Teanne (Edens) pitched very well today. It should be a huge confidence booster for her. Defense looked solid as well.”

Savannah Robertson, Amy Rogers and Kianna Garza each had a home run in the first game. Robertson went 2-for-4 with the home run as well as two runs, three RBIs and a stolen base. Garza (2-for-3) had a home run, two runs and four RBIs, while Ashley Gilsdorf (2-for-2) had two runs, a base on ball and a stolen base.

In the second game, Arndt finished 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs. Robertson finished 2-for-4 with two runs, a triple and RBI, and Edens (2-for-3) had a run, double and RBI.

Woodhead said it was encouraging to see her team bounce back after their loss to Iowa Western Community College last weekend.

“After the weekend, it was great to see us learn from our mistakes. We showed great enthusiasm and energy today, and if we continue to bring that energy, we will continue to compete.”

Northeast (3-5) will host Western Nebraska Community College today in a doubleheader at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk. Game times are 12 and 2 p.m.
