MARSHALLTOWN, IA – The Northeast Community College men’s basketball team’s regular season came to a close here Saturday with a 77-76 loss to Marshalltown Community College.

With 2.9 seconds left in the game and the Hawks down three points, Jalen Mobley hit a three-point shot. Marshalltown inbounded the ball, taking it three dribbles up the court when the Hawks’ Milan Skundric was called for a foul on a half-court shot.

A free throw by Jamir Coleman sealed the victory for the Tigers.

Northeast Coach Dan Anderson said neither team took control of the game for the entire night. “It was a hard-fought game. I do not like that (Marshalltown) shot 48 free throws to our 25, and I do not like that things were decided the way they were.”

The Hawks were led by sophomore forward Vance Johnson with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore guard Marty Hill finished with 16 points.

Brandon Simmons led the Tigers with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Northeast ends their regular season with a 21-9 record heading into the Region XI playoff game on Wednesday, March 1. They will face Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, IA, at 7 p.m. Previously, the Reivers beat the Hawks, 86-81.
