FORT DODGE, IA – The Northeast Community College women’s basketball team capped day two of the Iowa Central Community College Triton Classic here Saturday with a win over Iowa Central, 73-37.

“Our defense was pretty good tonight,” said Hawks Coach Matt Svehla. “We mixed things up defensively and really didn’t give them many easy opportunities.”

Northeast’s defense did not allow the Tritons to score more than seven points during any of the first three quarters. Offensively, the Hawks shot 58 percent from the field and were a perfect 7-for-7 from the line.

“We had some careless turnovers that we should not have had, but overall, we played okay, and it was a pretty good road trip for us,” said Svehla.

Maddie Egr led the Hawks in scoring with 13 points. Mykala Baylor put up 12, while Maeva Kitantou and Cynthia Jorge had ten each.

Northeast (11-1) will compete in the Iowa Western Community College Classic in Council Bluffs, IA, next weekend. On Friday, they face Kansas City Kansas Community College, who won the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II national championship last year, in a 5 p.m. game. On Saturday, the Hawks will face Northwestern College in a 1 p.m. game.
