COLUMBUS – The Northeast Community College men’s soccer team fell to Central Community College here Tuesday, 2-1.

“I thought we controlled the game and had the better of play but just could not find the back of the net,” said Northeast Coach Doug Seigle.

The Hawks started off strong with several good scoring opportunities but gave up a soft goal halfway through the first half. In the 37th minute, Sebastian Delfin Besores netted a goal for Northeast, bringing the halftime score to 1-1.

In the second half, Central took advantage of a Northeast mistake and scored on a late breakaway, making the final score 2-1.

Despite the loss, Northeast outshot Central, 15-7, and also had seven shots on goal to Central’s three. Carter Holthus had one save for the Hawks.

“I thought we outplayed Central, but mistakes cost us the game,” said Seigle.

Northeast travels to Marshalltown, IA, on Saturday, where they square off against Marshalltown Community College. Game time is 2 p.m.
