Northeast Men’s Soccer Returns for Second Season, Welcomes New Coach

NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College men’s soccer team returned to pre-season training camp last week as it prepares for its second season. Northeast begins its season next Tuesday when they face Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, IA.
Doug Seigle, new head coach, said pre-season practice has been progressing well. Seigle joins the Hawks from Indian Hills Community College, where he previously served as head men’s and women’s soccer coach for five years.
Seigle said the Hawks have been doing two practices a day since last Monday with a break on Sundays. The first week focused on fitness and basic skills, while the second week emphasized coming together as a team.
“We had several players with tired legs at the end of last week, but they have recovered over the weekend and returned refreshed with several great practices this week,” he said. “I am very pleased with the progress we have made as a team in a short period of time, but we still have a long way to go to reach our goals for this season.”
Eighteen newcomers will join four returning students this fall. Returning players include: Christian Chinchilla, Wakefield; Brady Fister, Norfolk; Marcus Holmberg, Columbus; and Kevin Koffi, Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
New players this season include: Jose Aguilar, Grand Island, Sebastian Delfin Besores, Veracruz, Mexico; Michael Bosiljevac, Omaha; Josh Crim, Holmesville; Troy Elliot, England; Christian Frahm, Norfolk; Carter Holthus, Beatrice; Daniel Isaza, Bogota, Colombia; Cameron Krueger, Norfolk; Juan Franco Lopez, Veracruz, Mexico; Andrew Marsh, Omaha; Martin Medina, West Point; Kevin Minotta, Colombia; Roberlando Morfi, Villa Clara, Cuba; Roberto Ochoa, Norfolk; Julio Perez, Wakefield; Oscar Urguidez, West Point; and Aaron Wilken, Norfolk.
Fister, Holmberg and Isaza were named captains earlier this week.
Men’s soccer joined the Northeast’s current lineup of basketball, golf, softball, volleyball and women’s soccer last fall.
The Hawks will play most home games at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk. However, their first home game, against Scott Community College, will be played at the Norfolk Air Park Soccer Complex on Saturday, August 27, at 1 p.m.
