NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College women’s basketball team is one game away from advancing to the national tournament. Athletic Director Jake Ripple would like to see a large crowd at the game to cheer on the Hawks in this very important contest.
Northeast (27-4) will host State Fair Community College of Sedalia, MO, in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) District K Championship game on Friday, March 4, in the Cox Activities Center on the Norfolk campus. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
“This will be an exciting game as the Hawks need one more win to earn an automatic bid to the NJCAA Division I Women’s National Tournament,” Ripple said. “It will be a very competitive game between two top quality Division I teams.”
Northeast defeated #11 Iowa Western 63-60 on Saturday to claim the Regional 11 Championship and advance to the District K Championship. State Fair (22-7) beat #21 Mineral Area Community College 88-86 in overtime that same day to win the Region 16 Championship.
Ripple is urging the community to come to Northeast for Friday’s game.
“We’re hosting an evening of quality basketball and entertainment as part of our ‘Pack the Gym –Bleed Red’ Night. Everyone will have an opportunity to win free Hawk memorabilia during the game, we’ll also have prizes for best costume and craziest fan, free goodies for the first 50 students who show their ID and much, much more. Also, our halftime entertainment will feature the Norfolk Senior High School Pink Panthers dance team. We also want everyone to wear red.”
The NJCAA DI Women’s Basketball Championship will be held March 14-19 at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock, TX.
Ripple said, “We are extremely proud of our women’s basketball team. They have had a great season and we’re looking to win this next game and move on to Lubbock. Friday will be a great opportunity for our students, faculty, staff and the public to come out to our campus and cheer on the Hawks and see some high caliber college basketball.”
