NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College men’s soccer team’s season came to an end Monday following a 3-2 loss to Dakota County Technical College in an Iowa Community College Athletic Association (ICCAC) Region XI Tournament Play-In game.
The game was scoreless in the first half, while Northeast scored in the first goal in the second half, according to Hawks Coach Chad Miller.
“We got on the board first in the 55th minute with a nice pass from Geremy Dable to Mitch Plance and Mitch took it to the goal and snuck it past the keeper. However, one of our weaknesses has been focus after we score or the other team scores, and it caught us again.”
Dakota County evened the match in the 56th minute and scored its second goal and took the lead in the 68th minute. The Hawks’ Mario Cortez was able to even things up with his goal in the 79th minute.
“I felt we would be going to overtime but in the 88th minute, Dakota County was able to slip one in off a corner kick,” Miller said. “We were unable to get another to tie up the match and our season came to an end.”
Miller said he is proud of his players for the way they played in the final contest to conclude their inaugural season at Northeast.
“I felt our guys left everything on the field. Dakota County is a good team and we knew we would have to have a good game to beat them. And I think we did. We just came up a little short. Our guys played their hearts out and looking back to the game I feel confident that they gave it everything they had. I am proud of their effort. It is tough to end any season with a loss, but I am glad we went out playing good soccer.
Dakota County outshot Northeast 25-12 and led in shots on goal, 21-7
