Hawks Defeat McCook In four Sets

MCCOOK – Courti Kunz had 21 kills while Taryn Luedtke had 19 in leading the #14 Northeast Community College volleyball team to a four set win over McCook Community College here Fridaynight. The scores were 25-27, 25-22, 25-20 and 25-10.

“We were slow to get started again tonight against McCook, but we were able to get going after the first set,” said Amanda Schultze, Hawks coach. “They ran a slower offense than what were are used to playing against and it was hard to adjust to that right away. We got caught on our heels a lot tonight, but we did a nice job finishing.”

Elsewhere for Northeast, Kunz had one solo and five assist blocks; Rachel Brandl had two ace serves while Mackenzie Wecker, Whitney Valasek and Nicki Stolzer had one each; Wecker finished with 27 digs, while Brandl recorded 24 and Meagan Backer had 20; and Bridget Schneider had 42 assists.

Northeast will host a triangular on Wednesday, October 7, at the Cox Activities Center on the Northeast campus in Norfolk. The Hawks face Iowa Central Community College at 3 p.m.; Iowa Central will challenge Central Community College at 5 p.m. and Northeast will take on Central at 7 p.m.
