Northeast Defeats Southwestern In Five Sets

NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College volleyball team improved to 11-7 Tuesday night following a five set win over Southwestern Community College of Iowa here. The scores were 18-25, 28-26, 25-11, 17-25 and 15-8.

“We were very up and down tonight, but we were able to come up with the win,” said Amanda Schultze, Hawks coach. “We made errors early on which set us back 0-1 after that first set. Courtni Kunz did a nice job at getting our offense going and giving the team some energy.”

Kunz finished with 19 kills and three assist blocks. Kelsey Shoemaker recorded 13 kills and four assist blocks. Also for Northeast, Mackenzie Wecker had 23 digs and four ace serves; Meagan Backer, 34 digs and Bridget Schneider, 47 assists.

The Hawks hit the road for a two-day road trip beginning Thursday when the teams faces North Platte Community College in North Platte beginning at 7 p.m. Northeast will play McCook Community College in McCook on Friday beginning at 7 p.m.
