ESTHERVILLE, IA – Northeast Community College Soccer Coach Chad Miller said his team’s match against Iowa Lakes Community College here Saturday was a tale of two halves. They played well for the first 60 minutes, but things changed in the second half and the Hawks lost 7-1.

“At half, we were down 1-0, but about 2 minutes into the second Julien (Koala) got a great shot to tie it up. The scored stayed that way until the 60th minute when Iowa Lakes took a shot from outside and we misjudged it thinking it was going wide and it slipped into the back corner.” That put Iowa Lakes up 2-1.

Miller said Northeast still played pretty well, but some injuries caused changes in the team’s rotation.

“Once the next goal came it was becoming more and more difficult to find our shape and move people around. It got away from us at that point. We did really well transitioning from offense to defense and were much better controlling the ball, but we still have to find a full 90 minutes. It is a work in progress.”

Statistically, Iowa Lakes led the Hawks 38-9 in shots and 27-7 in shots on goal. Koala had Northeast’s lone goal.

Northeast will hit the road for its next match against North Iowa Area Community College. Wednesday’s match will be held in Mason City, IA, 4 p.m.
