ABC has a new drama of biblical proportions.
“Of Kings and Prophets” — a retelling of the Old Testament story of David and King Saul — joined five other dramas as ABC began officially ordering new series late Thursday for launch during the 2015-16 TV season. Ray Winstone will play Saul and Oliver Rix will be David.
Also on the list is another drama from Shonda Rhimes, the writer-producer behind such hits as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal.” The new show is a thriller called “The Catch,” with Mireille Enos as a fraud investigator whose latest case hits a little too close to home.
“The Family” is a thriller about a politician’s family who welcomes back into the fold a son who was presumed dead years earlier. Joan Allen heads the cast.
“Quantico” is about a group of recruits at the FBI training camp, one of whom is suspected of plotting a terrorist attack. “Wicked City” is a crime drama that each season will follow a different case from Los Angeles history.
And Don Johnson — 1980s star of “Miami Vice” — returns to TV in an untitled drama about a family who moves to North Dakota to take advantage of the energy boom and promptly gets embroiled in a power struggle with a local tycoon.
ABC will officially roll out the entire fall lineup to advertisers in New York next week.
