NORFOLK – Adam Blaylock, assistant men’s basketball coach at Northeast Community College, is stepping down to accept a similar job at another college. He will be an assistant coach at Panola College in Carthage, TX.

The Ponies, who were 7-22 this past season, also have a new head coach in Grant McMillan, who led Northwest Florida State College (33-2) to the 2015 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I Basketball Championship.

Blaylock is looking forward to the challenge. “I’m excited to head to East Texas. I have coaching goals that I want to achieve and I think this will help me out.”

He said Panola’s program will be totally revamped with a new coaching team coming in.

“While there will be a couple players on the team coming back, there will be work to do with recruitment to fill up the team roster. We want to make sure we can be competitive in that league down there.”

Leaving Northeast is bittersweet for Blaylock. “I’m going to miss my Northeast family. Coach (Dan) Anderson has mentored me for almost 20-years now and it will be difficult to leave, but I’m also excited for the transition.”

Blaylock has been an assistant coach at Northeast since 2011. The Norfolk native also played for the Hawks from 2005-2007. This past year, the Hawks had a record of 25-7 and were nationally ranked in the NJCAA Division I poll.
