Northeast men come back to defeat Marshalltown

NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College men’s basketball team, down by as many as 19 points, stormed back to claim a victory over Marshalltown Community College here Wednesday, 84-77. With the win, the Hawks are now 17-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Northeast shot only 29-percent in the first half and trailed 42-29 at halftime. In the second half, the Hawks nailed six, three-point shots and eventually took the lead with 3:49 remaining in the game. Up by two with just under 40 seconds remaining in the game, Jalen Bradley hit a three pointer as the shot clock expired to seal the victory. Bradley ended up with 23 points – 17 of which came in the second half.

“I’m proud of our effort from about five minutes remaining in the first half to the end of the game. We told the guys to be in attack mode at halftime and play to their ability,” said Dan Anderson, head coach. “And it’s safe to say that they did!”

The Hawks’ Chima Moneke recorded a double-double, tallying 27 points and 12 rebounds. He also recoded five blocked shots. Buay Tuach contributed 13 points, highlighted by a high-flying dunk midway through the second half. Kevin Metoyer had a team high six assists. For the game, the Hawks shot 47 percent from the field and forced 19 Marshalltown turnovers.

Northeast continues conference play on Saturday as the team heads to #9 Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, IA. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
