NORFOLK – The Spring Job Fair at Northeast Community College in Norfolk will be the largest ever.  Representatives from 90 companies, agencies and organizations will take part in the event on Wednesday, March 19, from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Cox Activities Center gymnasium.

“Ninety employers from the area and region will be here to talk about a wide variety of employment opportunities,“ said Terri Heggemeyer, director of career services at Northeast. “They will be looking to fill internships, part time and full time positions. This is a great opportunity for students and alumni to have a personal conversation with prospective employers.”

Heggemeyer has a word of advice for students planning to attend the job fair. “A professional appearance, a smile, a resume´ and a firm handshake go a long way when you are meeting a prospective employer. As the old cliché says, you only get one chance to make a first impression and that first impression is so very important,” she said.

434 Northeast students visited with 74 employers during last year’s Job Fair. Heggemeyer said Northeast also hosts an annual Part-Time Job Fair at the beginning of the academic year. This gives students the opportunity to find work while attending classes.

The Northeast Community College Career Services Office offers a variety of services to prepare students for today’s workforce. This includes providing one-on-one advisement and personal attention to students as they look for employment; posts jobs daily to the Northeast on-line job board; assists with writing and completing resumes´, cover letters, and applications, and offers lifetime employment assistance to alumni, among others.

Northeast Community College offers over 80 programs and concentrations of study. These include technical, vocational, business, liberal arts, and transfer programs.
