NORFOLK – It was tale of two halves for the Northeast Community College women’s basketball team Wednesday night.
“Our first half of play was not very good. We just were not into it,” said Matt Svehla, Northeast Coach. But the Hawks turned things around after intermission and went on to a 104-82 victory over Central Community College-Columbus here.
Svehla said, “We also had too many turnovers in the first half. Our second half of play was much better. We got going pretty good and completely took control of the game. We also shot the ball well tonight from the field and from the foul line.”
The Hawks, now 25-3, shot 51-percent from the field and were 83-percent (20-24) from the free throw line. The Hawks also outrebounded the Raiders 53-39.
Northeast was led by Alison Klostergaard with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Megan Trinder was right behind with 19 points and 6 assists, Debinique Knowles had 14, Emily Gamble finished with 12; Yasmin Miller, 11, Jamea Coleman 10, Ena Viso 8, Annie Szczepaniak 7, and Lexi Murphy, 2.
Central was led by Javona Wynne with 16 points, while Caitlin Fehringer contributed 13 points.
The Hawks will close out the regular season Friday night with a home contest against the Concordia University JV. Tip-off at the Cox Activities Center on the Norfolk campus is 6 p.m.
