NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College men’s basketball team had lost nine straight games heading into Monday’s match against the Morningside JV at the Cox Activities Center. The Hawks used a 60 point first half en route to a 112-69 victory over the Mustangs. The win evens Northeast’s record to 14-14 with two regular season games remaining.
The Hawks had five players in double figures including Dionte Smith’s 24 points. Smith also recorded 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the year. Jabbar Washington, Chima Moneke, Lyle Hexom all netted 15 points and Buay Tuach chipped in 13. Moneke recorded eleven rebounds and Anthony Woods led the team in assists dishing out ten. As a team, the Hawks shot 72 percent from the free throw line and recorded eleven blocks.
Northeast will host Southeastern Community College this Saturday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Cox Activities Center on the Norfolk campus.
