For people that always say that there is not much to do in Norfolk during the year, wait until the summer starts. The summer events start off with the traditional DC Lynch carnival in the Sunset Plaza parking lot. The carnival, that comes twice a year to Norfolk, will be making its visit to Norfolk from May 16th to May 22nd. The carnival has many attractions and high adrenaline rides such as the Skymaster and the Zipper.
For the seventh year now, the Christian Cross Festival is going to be held at Skyview Lake on Friday June 9th. The festival will feature local and national Christian bands. Local bands such as Saviors Calling will be performing. Another band from Northeast Nebraska that will be performing is Remedy Drive from Lincoln. A new addition to the festival is this year they will be having three stages. Like last year, there will be a main stage and a Cross Rock stage, but this year, the festival will feature a Country and Gospel stage.
A new event coming to Norfolk this year will be the Airfest being held at the Karl Stefan Memorial Airport. The Airfest will be a two day event running from June 16 to June 17. The events will be starting on Saturday with a hot air balloon launch at 6 a.m. There will be flying competitions throughout the day and fly-in from military aircraft, which will be on display. There will be vendors and events for the whole family.
For yet another year, Norfolk will be hosting the annual Viaero Comedy Festival at the Johnny Carson Theater. This year, the amateur night will be hosted by New York Comedian. The festival will run from June 13th to the 17th. The festival will have comedians from Louie Anderson to several amateur comedians. The event will also have a duo of comedians that are for fit for the whole family. The Skit Guys, will be performing on Sunday June 17. The Skit Guys are a pair of comedians that put on skits that teach a lesson that can be applied in everyday life.
An event that has been a tradition for many people in Northeast Nebraska is the Boom Fest, previously named Big Bang Boom. Like every year, the Boom Fest has many activities for the whole family. Some of the events include a talent show, a display of military equipment, and it will all culminate with a firework display put on by J&M Productions.
The last big event this summer will be the D’arts Festival and Parade. The parade will kick off the days events with multiple bands and organizations present. After the parade, there will be many events on Norfolk Avenue. There will be bands and groups performing throughout the day.
During the summer, Norfolk will be having several activities going on that will keep you occupied and entertained. For those of you staying in Norfolk, or from here, you will have a lot to do until next semester starts.
