Flipping through the channels the other day while at my parents house I stopped on a channel where they were talking about an author with a plan to destroy people’s lives-How to be Anorexic.

The commercial I stopped on was of Dr. Oz’s show and he was going to have guests on that were following an authors book teaching people how to be anorexic.  This commercial talked of one young lady losing seventy pounds by following this book.  She had just stopped eating.

This book, that also has a website, calls itself “the healthier way to becoming anorexic.”

Anorexia-Nervosa is a life altering disease that can take over every part of your life.  MedicineNet.com defines anorexia as “A person with anorexia often initially begins dieting to lose weight. Over time, the weight loss becomes a sign of mastery and control.”

This means that they restrict what they eat and could start to over exercise, and other unsafe things.

I bring this up because the last week of February was National Eating Disorder Awareness week.  This week was to help people heal and other to realize they were beautiful no matter what they looked like.

This book is sending many people over the edge, an edge that may have never been found if they would not have found this book.

There is no “safe” way to starve yourself, there are always complications that affect the way that you live.  People with an eating disorder do not enjoy going out to eat or even eat at all.  It is something that is needed, like having to go to work.  Why would anyone make the choice to become this way?

Anorexia also alters your mind.  Someone who wants to read a book like this is already have body issues that causes them grief, so the problems are going to start to pile up.

Another book that I researched online called “A Life Without ED,” discussed one of the main psychological problems.  The eating disorder starts to morph into something that lives on its own.  Ed (Eating Disorder)  tells you what to do, what to eat, and how you really look in the mirror.

I feel that this book should have some kind of warning label like the ones that are put on pill bottles:  May cause you to hear a little voice inside your head that tells you are fat, you may start having weird hair pop up all over your skin, and you will never be able to enjoy food ever again.

I know that we are a society that wants to be apart of the “pretty people,’ but this is not the way to do it.  There are plans out there that can help lose unwanted weight the safe way.  Nutritionists, personal trainers, and dietitians are paid to help people get the body that they always wanted.

This book may sound alluring because it will be quick and easy, but nothing is easy about starving yourself and staying thin a very dangerous way.

I actually went on this website (I am not going to disclose it) and looked at this book, and I saw that it was just as unhealthy as any anorexic diet.  The author marks that they drank only green tea with vinegar in it for weeks and lost three pounds a week.  How is that healthy?

We are alive, and everything that is alive needs nutrients.  We need food and water to survive.  Fat will be lost from this diet, but muscle will be lost as well.  The body will start to starve and if pushed far enough, will die.

This book is horrible, and I can see that many recovering anorexics being upset by this book.  These men and women worked very hard to get out of this life style, while a book is pushing others into it.

If anyone feels that they need to get in shape or shed the extra pounds, they need to do it in the right way- eating in moderation and exercising.  It may take some time, but the results will be worth it.

If anyone knows anyone that has an eating disorder or is showing signs of one, make sure they get help.  There are many practiced counselors that specialize in this type of disorder.

Life with this type of disorder is not fun.  If it was so much fun the first place, why is there so many rehab clinics to help people suffering from an eating disorder?  It is a dark tunnel, and a book like this only makes it darker.
