Hawks steamroll Midland JV

NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College women’s basketball team had no problems with Midland University JV on Tuesday night, topping the Warriors 73-51 at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.

 

The Hawks (5-0) jumped out early to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter and led by as much as 12 points later in the period, after ICCAC Player of the Week, Kyla Moore (Norfolk, Neb.) hit a 3-pointer.

 

Northeast ended up scoring 16 points in the second quarter, while holding the Warriors to just eight points to take a 32-20 lead heading into halftime.

 

The Hawks kept their distance in the third quarter by tallying 28 points, while ultimately notching 13 more in the final quarter of the contest.

 

Emina Hadzihusejnovic (Mostar, Bosnia) led the Hawks with 13 points and nine rebounds. Moore pitched in 12 points, five rebounds, five steals and four assists, while Beth Matas (Girona, Spain) added 11 points and five assists. Breanna Stouffer (David City, Neb.) and Macey Kulhanek (Howells, Neb.) each had 10 points.

 

The Hawks shot 43 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc.

 

Northeast heads north to compete in the NDSCS AmericInn Classic this weekend. They will face Lake Region State College at 1 p.m. Friday and North Dakota State College of Science at 3 p.m. Saturday in Wahpeton, N.D.
