Five Northeast volleyball players named to all-region teams

NORFOLK – Five members of the Northeast Community College volleyball team have earned post regular season honors by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

Northeast led the way on the ICCAC All-Region XI-B First Team.

Courtni Kunz, a right side hitter from Stuart, led the Hawks in kills and points this season with 351 and 386 respectively. The sophomore also had 817 total attacks this year to help guide the Hawks to their first ever National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament appearance.

Kelsey Shoemaker, Stanton, helped lead the Hawks on the front line this year. Shoemaker, a sophomore, led the team in blocks this year with 61 total, including 25 solo blocks all while contributing 370 points to her team over the course of the season.

Defensive specialist Mackenzie Wecker, O’Neill, had 741 digs this year. That mark is best in the conference, and eighth best in the NJCAA. The sophomore also contributed with 46 service aces and 51 points on the year.

Tabitha Kander, an outside hitter/right side hitter, Stanton, and Monique Schafer, Stuart, were named to the ICCAC All-Region Second Team.

Elsewhere, Wecker was named to the ICCAC All-Conference First Team; Shoemaker was named to the ICCAC All-Conference Second Team; and Kunz, Shoemaker and Wecker were named to the Region XI-B All-Tournament Team.

The Hawks (27-11) are gearing up to play in the NJCAA National Tournament. The Hawks will face Catawba Valley Community College of North Carolina, (39-5) on Thursday, November 17, at 3 p.m. (EST), 2 p.m. (CST) in Charleston, WV.
