ESTHERVILLE, IA – The Northeast Community College men’s soccer team was blanked by Iowa Lakes Community College here Tuesday, 5-0.

“I thought we played well at times but just ran out of gas late in the game,” said Hawks Coach Doug Seigle.

Defensively, Northeast made strong adjustments despite missing a few players that usually start due to illness and injury. They also created some good scoring opportunities but failed to capitalize.

Iowa Lakes led at halftime, 1-0.

In the last 15 minutes of the game, Northeast gave up three goals to the Lakers.

Iowa Lakes outshot the Hawks, 19-11, and also had more shots on goal with 12 to Northeast’s five. Troy Elliott recorded seven saves for the Hawks.

“I thought we played hard and got beat by a better team, but I don’t think the score is a good indication of how we played,” said Seigle. “We are getting better and hope to finish the season strong this weekend.”

Northeast (3-15) will host #15 Marshalltown Community College in their final game of the regular season on Saturday. Game time is 2 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park in Norfolk.
