The Northeast Community College softball team looks forward to its first home opener Tuesday March 8, 2016 at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park, as they host Southeast Community College. The games are at 3 and 5 p.m. Northeast split a doubleheader with Central Community College March 2, losing the first game 13 -5 and winning the second game 10-5.

Northeast players Leah Grovijohn, (Dodge) and Paige Schmidt, (Osmond) said, “Yes we’re very excited for our first home game, it’s going to be a great feeling playing at home in front of our peers.” Grovijohn and Schmidt say team chemistry is great, despite this being their first year as a team. “We’re getting to know each other more outside of practice, we hang out all the time and we even have team suppers so it’s great bonding,” they said.

This is Coach Woodhead’s first year too, so the players are getting used to her style.”I would say my coaching style is conservative but I’m laid back. The players come to practice on time and work hard and all I have to do is ask them once,” said Woodhead. Coach Iris Woodhead
Grovijohn and Schmidt say it is important for the players to be good people on and off the field. “Our biggest goal is having good GPAs, being academic athletes first.”

After Tuesday’s game the team plays Pratt Community College in Kansas on March 12 at 1 p.m.
