Northeast archers take top honors at USCA North Regional Tournament

NORFOLK – Members of the archery club team at Northeast Community College took some of the top honors at the U.S. Collegiate Archery Association (USCAA) 3-D Tournament held recently at the Norfolk Archery Club range here.

Randy Latimer, Northeast archery coach, said 32 shooters from Northeast, Wayne State College, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point competed in the event. “Archers shot at 20 three dimensional animals at unmarked distances from ten to 45 yards depending on class. Then, they shot at 20 animals at marked distances in the same range.”

In individual results for the Northeast women, Kylie Knigge, of Verdigre, placed first in Compound; Lacy Krohn, of Ponca, was first in Bowhunter; and Victoria Novak, Holdrege, was first in Basic Bow. Nicole McFarland, of Norfolk, placed third in Basic Bow.

In the men’s competition, the Hawks’ Sam Vanderheiden, of Omaha, placed second in Compound and Steven Cornett, of Wisner, was second in Bowhunter.

In the team completion, Cornett, Bruce Kummer, of Columbus, and Levi Voecks, of Norfolk, took first place in Bowhunter; Knigge and Vanderheiden were first in Compound Mixed; and Cornett and Krohl were second in Bowhunter Mixed.

Other Northeast team members taking part included Kaleb Reigle, of Stanton; Kyle Stang, of Herman; and Kelsie Waller, of Clearwater.

The Northeast Archery Club Team will compete in the USCAA 3-D Intercollegiate Archery Championships this weekend in Harrisburg, IL.
