NORFOLK – Mathew Wingett, who helped lead Winnebago to an inspiring Nebraska Class C-1 State Basketball Championship after an amazing season this year, has signed to play basketball at Northeast Community College in Norfolk.

The 6’ 3” senior standout led the Indians (27-1) with 22 points in the title game in March over Columbus Scotus, giving Winnebago its first state title in 75-years. For the season, Wingett averaged 15.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, three assists and 1.5 steals per game.

He was named to the Nebraska All-State Second Team, State Tournament All-Class Team and captain of the All-Tournament Team.  Wingett was twice named to the Lewis and Clark All-Conference Team and was named to the All-State Honorable Mention Team in 2014.

“We are very excited to have Mathew join the Hawks basketball family,” said Dan Anderson, Northeast coach. “He is a great all-around player. We love his work-ethic, basketball IQ and toughness. Mathew also plays well in all games, but especially in big ball games. This is good news for Hawk Nation.”
