NORFOLK – The University of Oregon has signed Northeast Community College women’s basketball standout Megan Trinder. The 5’7” sophomore guard from Hollywell, Queensland, Australia, signed with the NCAA Division I Ducks on Wednesday.

“I’m so grateful for the opportunity. I’ve had a great two years here, but i’m looking forward to such big things from this,” Trinder said. “There’s another Australian girl there and the head coach is amazing. He’s coached other Australian girls and I’ve had really good feedback on the program.”

Trinder wants to use this opportunity to play the best that she can. “I want to prove to myself and my family that I can play at that level and I’m looking forward to it.”

During her time with the Hawks, Trinder averaged 12 points, 7.3 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game. She was #3 in the nation for assists. The Hawks were 51-10 over the past two years and were nationally ranked during both seasons.

Trinder has been a two-time Iowa Community College Athletic Conference All-Region selection and third team All-American selection.

Matt Svehla, Hawks coach, said he is excited for Trinder.

“She has worked so hard and it is nice to see her get rewarded for her efforts. Megan has had several colleges making offers and Oregon felt right to her. I think that this is a great fit and I expect her to do well.”

Svehla commended Trinder’s commitment and energy to the program.

“She gave so much to our basketball program during her two years here and she was a joy to coach. She was a great teammate, a passionate competitor and one heck of a player. Our fans were always treated when Megan Trinder was on the floor.”
