NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College women’s basketball team picked up where it left off following the holiday break, with a 71-58 victory of the Mount Marty JV here Friday. The Hawks improve to 15-2.

Brooke Bauer and Janea Bunn led Northeast with 13 points and eight rebounds each. Megan Trinder finished with eleven points while Ena Viso had ten.

Matt Svehla, Hawks coach was pleased with his team’s efforts.

“With this being our first game back, we actually played pretty well out of the gates and had good energy, but Mount Marty stayed after it and they really shot the three point (shots) well. They were 10-19 in the first half from the arc, but we defended that better in the second half. They have some really good shooters and they showed that.  Our execution was off somewhat tonight, but that is to be expected with this being our first game since Dec. 13.  It was an OK start to 2015.”

Northeast will play at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, IA on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
