NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will observe Veterans Day on Tuesday, November 11, with a flag raising ceremony and a program.

The flag raising will be held at 8:45 a.m. in front of the College Welcome Center. Three Northeast students, who are veterans, will raise the flag during the ceremony. Northeast musicians Mira Bettendorf, Norfolk, and Brian Glock, Rising City, will also perform the national anthem with Kevin McLouth, music instructor.

At 11 a.m., there will be a program in the Cox Activities Center Theatre. Dr. Michael Chipps, Northeast president, will give a welcome.

Northeast Community College’s vocal ensemble, Ebony and Crimson, and the Men’s and Women’s Ensembles will perform during the program.

Vocal selections, under the direction of Dr. Linda Boullion, department chair and director of vocal music activities, will include “America,” arranged by Tom Fettke and Thomas Grassi; “Because of the Brave,” arranged by Bob Krogstad; “A Festive Call To Freedom,” arranged by Joseph Martin; “O America,” arranged by Roger Emerson; “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” arranged by Craig Courtney; and “Instrument of Peace,” arranged by Greg Gilpin. Margaret Schultz is accompanist for the vocal groups.

The children’s choir from St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Norfolk, under the direction of Seth Fitzsimmons, will also perform during the program.

Both events are open to the public.
